先简单说“毕业”这个词。

► Vi. 毕业

He graduated fromMedicine Department，class of 1998.

他毕业于医学系，1998届。

哪一届是用“class of”来表达的。这里的“class”不是班级那么小的范围啦，是指一整届的学生哦。

He graduated asan M.D. at Edinburgh.

他毕业于爱丁堡大学，获医学博士学位(Doctor of Medicine)。

► Vt. 使毕业

The university graduated500 students last year.

该大学去年毕业了500名学生。

► N. 毕业生

He is a graduate inmedicine.

他是医科毕业生。

学位服

Cap and Gown

穿上学位服除了用put on，还可用don这个书面词：don your cap and gown。

英式英语里，don还可指大学或学院的教员，尤指牛津或剑桥大学教员。

►其实学位服还有个部分叫hood（兜帽，坎肩），就是披在背后的那个垂布。

关于gown，很多学校都有自己的特色，大体就是我们常见的那个大袍子。

咱们要专门讲的，是每年都有媒体专门报道的学位帽caps。

►学位帽最常用的叫法是cap，又叫square academic cap，graduate cap。

不过，“学位帽”还有个有趣的说法：“托泥板”，Mortarboard 。

Mortarboard=mortar（砂浆）+board（板子）。这个词本意是泥瓦匠砌墙时用来hold mortar（托砂浆）的“托泥板”，后引申出“学位帽”的意思。
